One of the most stressful experiences a person can undergo is moving. Whether you are moving interstate or to a different country, the whole process of relocating will be tough on both your physical and mental health.

But no matter how strenuous your upcoming move can get, it is important that you prioritize your health. It can be hard to do this but by following some tips, you can stay fit physically and mentally before and during the actual move.

Below are some helpful tips to accomplish this as shared by leading interstate removalists from Sydney:

1. Start preparing early

As soon as you ascertain you will be moving, start making plans. Begin by making a to-do list and a timetable of when you should complete each task. It is also important that you make a list of all the items you want to move and all the packing supplies you will need at this point.

You can use a notebook to make your to-do and packing lists, write reminders and other important notes. Another option would be to use an app or download a moving checklist to ensure that you don’t forget to anything for the big move.

When moving, keep in mind that procrastinating and leaving things to the last minute will only add to your stress. This, in turn, will take a toll on your physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing.

2. Prioritize self-care

With so many things to do and think about, there is a high chance you will forget to take care of yourself. But if you want to stay healthy and fit throughout the moving process, you need to practice self-care every day.

At the very least, make sure you get enough sleep every night. In addition, find ways to relax and rejuvenate after long hours of packing such as soaking in the bath, meditating, or getting a massage. You can also go for a walk, watch a movie, or go out to eat.

No matter what activity you choose, select one that will allow you to relax and feel energized to complete your tasks for the following day.

3. Work out regularly

Aside from doing yoga or Pilates, make sure you still get some regular exercise. Try to start this at least three weeks before your move.

Working out regularly prior to your move will help your body avoid injuries once you start moving and carrying boxes and other items. In addition, regular workouts will help reduce your levels of stress and anxiety around the move since your body and brain will be flooded with endorphins.

A full-body workout will allow you to strengthen your core, back, neck, shoulders, and arms. Barre, kickboxing, TRX, Crossfit, and spin classes are great options. Zumba or other dance-focused fitness classes will also help boost your cardio fitness and lower your stress levels as the day of your big move approaches.

4. Eat more healthy foods

Although you may be tempted to open a bag of chips or munch on a slice of pizza during breaks, try to curb your cravings. Avoid skipping meals as well even when you have a lot of things to do.

You need to have enough energy to fuel through all the chores. You can get the energy you need by eating healthy foods for snack time, lunch breaks and other meals.

Here are some tips for doing so:

  • At the start of each day, prepare healthy snacks and meals which you can put in the fridge, reheat or eat straight away during your breaks.
  • If you want your lunch or dinner delivered to your home, order healthy options such as salads and low-fat sandwiches. Stay away from menu items loaded with empty calories.
  • Try to avoid consuming excessive amounts of coffee as well. Stick to only one or two cups per day.
  • Munch on fresh fruits and veggies during snack breaks. They are filling, nutritious, and give you more energy to power through your day.
  • Drink water frequently to stay hydrated and to replace the liquids you lose when you are working too hard.

5. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes

You will be doing a lot of bending, squatting, and carrying during packing and on the actual moving day. As such, it is best to wear flexible, loose, and breathable clothes during these time so that you can move freely.

You would also do well to wear comfy enclosed shoes such as sneakers since you will be standing and moving a lot of times throughout the day. There is also a chance you may drop a box accidentally; so to protect your toes, wear snug and comfy closed toe shoes.

6. Stay positive

Lastly, throughout the process, be optimistic.

Although it is normal to feel anxious about moving to a new place, try to focus more on the positive side of your decision. Focus on the benefits of moving such as getting a new start in a different and perhaps even a better neighborhood, opportunities to make new friends and connections, etc.

Don’t forget to think about the new places you can explore as well when you move to a new city or state.

Staying positive and being excited about your upcoming move will help you stay energized to complete all your chores, too.
