What is Arthritis?

When we hear the word ” arthritis “, the image of an old woman sitting in a wheelchair involuntarily appears before her eyes.

But is this disease likely to overtake only the elderly? And why the old woman, is it really only women who are prone to arthritis? Is his development really impossible to prevent?

All these questions are not a common topic for conversation, but such information would be very useful for us to be attentive to ourselves and cautious.

1. Arthritis does not know the age

Arthritis occurs in people of any age, although most believe that this disease affects mainly people of the older generation. Therefore, you should take certain precautions.

The first thing to do is to see a doctor right away, as soon as you notice the first symptoms. It can be a fever, headaches or weakness. The first affected areas are usually knees and fingers.

When it comes to arthritis, age does not matter. Rheumatoid arthritis, for example, appears in young adolescents and in adults up to 35 years of age.

The cause of the development of this disease is not exactly known, but some scientific studies indicate that this may be due to a lack of vitamin C in the body.

2. Arthritis can be treated

Many believe that if arthritis has appeared, then it is already impossible to alleviate the condition in any way. But this is not so!

Physiotherapy, proper exercise, pain medication can help the patient stay active and significantly reduce the discomfort that arthritis causes.

In some cases, the disease can even be cured completely if it passes in mild form and the treatment was started on time.

Nevertheless, in most cases it is impossible to completely eliminate this problem. After all, if the disease is already in an advanced stage, it causes damage to the joints and tendons that cover them.

But there is good news: if you strictly follow the doctor’s recommendations regarding the treatment of arthritis and be consistent in your actions, you can maintain a fairly active lifestyle, saving yourself from painful sensations.

3. Why do bones ache?

In fact, it’s not bones that hurt, but joints. With arthritis, they become inflamed, and pain arises that it seems that the bones ache. If the bones ached, then it would be a different disease: osteoporosis.

It is also said that people with arthritis can predict the weather. But this is also incorrect.

Numerous scientific studies have been carried out on this subject, but the answer to the question of the existing connection between the condition of patients with arthritis and the weather has always been negative.

4. The only victims of arthritis are women

Despite this common belief, arthritis affects people of both sexes. Yes, in most cases it is really women, but only because they are more vulnerable and predisposed to this disease than men.

In order to avoid or at least reduce the risk of developing arthritis, it is important for people of both sexes to adhere to a healthy lifestyle.

5. Arthritis affects not only people who are overweight

A sedentary (sedentary) way of life (or lack of exercise) is the main enemy of the human body, which can cause many diseases: the appearance of excess weight, heart problems and even cancer.

In the case of overweight, they say that it is a factor that causes arthritis. And it is not unreasonable, since excess weight does lead to premature “wear” of the joints.

But even thin people, unfortunately, are in no way immune from this unpleasant degenerative disease. In their case, the reasons may be the following:

  • The presence of bacteria in the body.
  • Injuries received in the past, if not treated properly.
  • Sports or increased physical activity, leading to wear and tear on the joints with malnutrition.
  • Lack of exposure to sunlight.
  • Unbalanced food or the presence of harmful foods in the diet.

Now that you have learned a little more about arthritis, you, for sure, will be able to take care of yourself to prevent its development. And remember that the best prevention will be a healthy lifestyle.
